Faculty & Staff

The CHDS Program consists of nine full time tenure-track faculty, one adjunct faculty member, a counseling center director, and two full time secretarial staff. Below is the contact information, vitae, and descriptions of each of these individuals.

Donald L. Bubenzer, Ph.D., PCC-S

Professor

2007-2008 Interim Dean of the College & Graduate School of Education, Health, & Human Services

Description: Donald Bubenzer earned his doctorate in counselor education from Ohio University in 1976 and joined the Kent faculty in 1984. For him the draw to being a faculty member was that he could work with others in a place that valued thought, reflection, learning and service in relation to the well-being of society and the world. Don has found Kent State to be a place where faculty, students, staff, and administrators come to make a contribution, and not just to further their careers. With these colleagues he came to believe that education is as much about valuing as it is about knowledge and skills; that building the capacity for leadership is critical to our future; and that there is a need to assume responsibility for how we describe our lives, i.e. the stories we tell ourselves, each other, and the world in which we live—for it is in these descriptions that we draw forth life’s possibilities. Currently much of his scholarly, instructional, and administrative work is given to the exploration of the above ideas.
